🥬 Implementing the 9-Day Whole Food Detox Diet
Part 2: Meals, Smoothies, and Detox in Action By Jaime Hernandez Health and Exercise Prescriptions
📖 Missed Part 1? Start here →
Now that your pantry and kitchen are fully prepped, let’s dive into implementing your 9-day whole food, hypoallergenic detox.
You’ll be referencing The Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook often, so keep it nearby as we begin this second phase.
🥤 Days 1–2: Detox with Green Smoothies & Herbal Tea
The first two days are focused on green smoothies and a cleansing root detox tea. This will help flush out toxins, support liver function, and set the tone for your gut reset.
✅ Recommended Equipment:
While any blender will work, I recommend the Vitamix blender. It creates smooth, nutrient-dense blends that are perfect for this detox and beyond.
🍏 Green Smoothie Recipe
(from The Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook by Alissa Segersten and Tom Malterre)
Ingredients:
2 apples (cored, chopped)
2 ripe pears (cored, chopped)
1–2 cups water
1–2 inch piece fresh ginger (peeled, sliced)
5 kale leaves (rinsed, torn)
5 romaine, spinach, or collard leaves
1 cup green cabbage (optional)
Optional: parsley or mint, 2–3 tbsp flax seeds, ½ cup soaked goji berries
Instructions:
Blend apples, pears, and water until smooth.
Add ginger, kale, lettuce, and cabbage. Blend again.
Adjust to taste: Add another pear if too bitter. Add more water for a thinner consistency.
Sip slowly and mindfully.
🍵 Detox Tea: Cleansing Root Blend
(Recipe on p. 369 of the cookbook)

This tea supports your liver and kidneys during detox. Drink it daily throughout the 9 days.
⚠️ Consult your healthcare provider before consuming herbs, especially if pregnant or taking medication.
